Kawartha Lakes Snowmobile Club
On May 9th, 1979 Somerville & District Snowmobile Association was incorporated
by ten individuals whose objectives were:
TO better promote the safety of snowmobiling;
TO foster a spirit of co-operation with Ontario's law forces;
TO assist in the protection of the environment and
TO maintain a good public image and promote the spirit of snowmobiling in Ontario
On May 23, 2002 the organization's name officially changed to Kawartha Lakes
Snowmobile Club. We've come a long way from a little club back in 1979 to
a club that maintains the trail system in the heart of the Kawartha's, from
Lindsay, Cameron, Fenelon Falls, Coboconk to Kinmount and all points in
between. We are approximately 900 members strong and growing a steady pace
each year. Our 166 km's of scenic trails take you through some areas like the
majestic Tall Pines wood lot known as the Pinery Trail and the Maple Bush Trail
where the sap lines can be seen as you wind on thru. All of our side trails
give the avid snowmobiler the most breath taking step back into nature, away
from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The Volunteer base has grown in the past few years. Volunteers lend a hand
on the trails with brushing and signage. Other volunteers offer their expertise
in computer skills, finance, permits, marketing, organizational and promotional
skills. Without our volunteers our club would not be the success that it is
today.
In 2004 we proudly celebrated our 25th Anniversary.
Many of
our founding ten individuals are still 'members' and our Past President, Gerry
Rintoul is still a Board Member and is District Two's Operations Director. Our
roots are in our communities and our communities and businesses fully support
the Kawartha Lakes Snowmobile Club in many, many ways, from sponsorships, permit
outlets and advertisers they help our club and we thank all of you!
In 2004 we received the OFSC Newsletter Award and in 2005 the highest award of all.....
the OFSC President's Award... Club of the Year! What an achievement and honour! To all of our Volunteers,
Landowners, Sponsors, Business and Community Partners, thank you for your support working hand in hand
with this Club.
There are many restaurants, motels, inns and gas stations on our trail system
and all of them Welcome Snowmobilers! There are many areas where you can park
your vehicles and unload your sleds and ride the entire day. Plan a weekend you
are most welcome to stay.
THINK SNOW and LET YOUR SPIRIT RIDE...
